Technically Speaking -
A Better Mouse Trap

Just what makes a Shufro system better? A list for the technically inclined.

  • Shufro CPU's are built here in Newton, by our staff. We design the board layout, the parts placement, the circuits themselves. We know our product to the last chip. The CPU's are built around Motorola chips.

  • Other companies buy someone else's box and put the red wire on the red screw, then hope for the best.

  • Shufro writes and updates our software. Everyone knows that software evolves. As clever as ours may be, some smart staff person ( or customer ) on occasion thinks of an even better way. Our software is in an EPROM in a socket, so that it can be changed to make your alarm operation even better if someone thinks of something great. Our new software is written to be upward compatible with what you have. Software is free to our customers.

  • Other companies - what you buy is what you own (forever?). Would you buy a computer that can't have new hardware or software? Shufro CPU's have a hardware expansion buss, in case some new concept comes along that is totally incompatible with the existing thinking. Shufro customers are secure in knowing that new ideas don't make their system old.

  • Other companies are limited to what the designer of their "box" was thinking when he designed it, usually more than a year before the release day. New ideas = new box. ( and keypads etc. from non compatibility )

  • Shufro uses standardized input and output devices. Rather than a new keypads each year - with one more LED on it, we have different levels of output to fit your needs. CAD display maps, digital readouts and speech synthesis to name a few. All upgradable after the fact, in case as they often do, your needs change.

  • Other companies use the hot item of the day. The hot life of these items is usually around 6 months. Then something else is hot. Compatibility between manufactures is zero. Compatibility inside a manufacturing line is close to zero. Some lines of product have had 8 incompatible CPU's and keypads in four years. Already you can't find parts for many of these.

  • Shufro uses edge card connected CPU boards to make any servicing one trip. Others save the two dollar edge connector, so that the service man labels more than 50 wires, takes out the "guts" sends it out for repair (taking two weeks typically), gets it back, delivers it to you and spends an hour hooking up 50 plus wires.

  • Shufro's unique in the country central office set up offers both the security of U.L. listing as well as diagnostics - down to what hex bits were sent.

  • Others get what ever central station package their company buys.

  • Shufro keypads are simple, but smart. They are passive terminals allowing more of them as well as superior lifetimes and temperature limits.

  • Others use active keypads. Most don't like the temperature of garages in New England and if one keypad goes down so does the whole system.
